What: The institutional pipeline made concrete: little alcoholic attorney Tiny Ewell is driven by a rehab staffer from St. Mel's Hospital detox to Ennet House (Unit #6, Enfield Marine VA complex), his first day out of the detox's "Happy Slippers." Detox portraiture — Ewell's DTs and mouse-hallucinations traded for Librium; his last roommate, a late-stage alcoholic with "the rouged-corpse look that attends detox from late-stage alcoholism," raptly entertained by an air conditioner (an early anhedonia/Entertainment rhyme). The detox → halfway-house handoff is the standard on-ramp to the recovery arc these residents share (event 8).
