The Phoenix double: as Steeply works Orin, the wheelchair-men and the "Swiss" hand-model close in

What: Coincident with Steeply's cultivation, Orin is being shadowed by burly A.F.R. wheelchair-men, and a putatively "Swiss" hand-model materializes to seduce Orin at the airport exactly as "Helen" departs — the same Swiss accent as the legless "surveyor" who quizzes Orin at his hotel door (a Schmeisser machine pistol under the bedding). Orin volunteers to drive Helen "all the nightmarish way" to the airport; only later does he register that the wheelchairs vanished while she was in town and returned hours after she left. The two agencies' operations converge on Orin, unseen by him.
