"A second world inside the lines": here there are no conditions

• What: Against the players' complaints about the cold, Schtitt delivers the drill-sermon that is the practical face of his creed. There is "always something that is too" — cold, hot, wind, a too-pretty girl in the audience — in the external world; the answer is not to "adjust to conditions" but to build and stay inside a "second world inside the lines" (23.8 by 8.2 meters) that is "always the same." In that world there is only "you, and in the hand a tool, there is a ball, there is opponent with his tool, and always only two of you." E.T.A.'s task is to make "New type citizen" — citizens of this sheltering second world. He half-jokingly offers to arrange for the boys never to leave the court until "there is citizenship" (echoing his own Gymnasium, event 2). Hal, prompted, locates the second world in "The human head, sir": "The game's two heads' one world."
