Overground fugitive: disguised, coke-frozen, robbing the two Chinese women

• What: Days after fleeing, Lenz lives rough and "Overground," never sleeping or eating, in a grandiose fugitive disguise (fluorescent snowpants, a ball-fringed sombrero, a mannequin's glued-on black mustache, auto-darkening glasses) that makes him "pass easily for one of metro Boston's homeless and wandering mad." Coke-frozen from nose to knees and drowning in surveillance paranoia (helicopters disguised as his own heartbeat), he trails two tiny Chinese women he's decided carry their wealth in their shopping bags — the clock putting him "smack in the middle of the former Interval of Issues-Resolution" — then knocks them aside "like dolls" and runs off with the treasure-heavy bags through the Little Lisbon alleys (the same alley network where Poor Tony Krause is simultaneously mugging Ruth van Cleve). He plans to fence the goods and "refill the receptacle in his medical dictionary."
