The streetlet melee: Lenz uses Gately as a human shield; Gately is shot; two Nucks killed

• When: the midnight car-moving hour, 11–12 Nov YDAU, in the Enfield Marine streetlet outside Ennet House
• What: The pursuing Nucks (A.F.R.) track Lenz to Ennet House and corner him at the post-curfew car-switch. Lenz, wired on Bing, dashes behind Gately and spreads his arms to grip each of Gately's shoulders, "using Don Gately like a shield," while jabbering disclaimers. Gately — Staff, responsible for the residents — fights the two knife-and-fist Nucks and is shot in the shoulder by a third with a modified.44 Bulldog; Bruce Green half-nelsons the gunman and forces the barrel skyward, saving Gately's life. Two Nucks end up dead (one head-battered on the Montego windshield, one with Yolanda's spike heel through the eye). Lenz rolls on the lawn hitting an unconscious Nuck, saying "There, there," and afterward frets about the blood on his clothes. Gately, bleeding out, asks him: "You got fucking armed Nucks wanting your ass too?"
