• What: Fellow resident Bruce Green — a quiet, "stand-up," garbage-head kid (MILDRED BONK tattooed on his triceps) — asks to walk home with Lenz after a White Flag meeting, and it becomes a nightly thing. Green's presence is a genuine problem for Lenz: it blocks the solo 2216h. "resolution" interval and builds a "Withdrawal-grade pressure," yet Lenz values Green's rare, non-interrupting, "strong air of non-rat" listening ear (talking being "sort of Lenz's way of thinking"), and is bizarrely anxious about how to blow him off without seeming to spurn him. The pairing is the arc's fulcrum: it is Green who will witness the dog-kill (event 10) and tackle the gunman at the melee (event 11).
