What: It was Orin who introduced Joelle to JOI's obscure Work and who "had this stubborn idea that Himself would want to use her. In the Work." Joelle read the wish's real project as "developmentally obvious: he thought he could somehow get to his father through her… a three-way bond," Orin unconsciously wanting her to mediate between him and "Himself" as Avril did. She was uneasy about "the excited way Orin predicted that his father wouldn't be able to 'resist using' her." Feeds both open questions: the Orin–JOI–Joelle triangle and the mother-son lattice.
