What: Per Notkin (relaying Joelle's impression — triple hearsay), JOI's widow-to-be Avril struck Joelle as "very possibly Death incarnate," her constant smile a rictal, thanatoptic grin; Joelle found it bizarre that JOI kept casting her, Joelle, as feminine Death "when he had the real thing right under his nose," the photogenic widow.
