The Entertainment's content: Madame Psychosis as maternal Death

• What: Per Notkin, Infinite Jest (V or VI) features Madame Psychosis as a maternal instantiation of Death — nude, corporeally gorgeous, hugely pregnant (an f/x; Notkin has seen Joelle naked and states she was never visibly pregnant), her deformed face veiled or computer-blanked or anamorphosized by a very strange novel single lens on the Bolex turret, inclined over a floor- or crib-level camera and explaining in childlike language that Death is always female and maternal, and that the woman who kills you is your next life's mother — mothers' frantic love being amends for a murder neither remembers. SOLE-source caveat carried in the scene itself: Notkin knows the film only from Joelle's account of performing in it; Joelle never saw the assembled cartridge and doubted it was even entertaining. This is the richest single digest statement of the Entertainment's content; the firsthand Joelle account elsewhere in the novel differs — record Notkin's as testimony, resolve nothing.
