• What: Before the fatal night, the attaché did his medical residency at Brandeis, "where the film director's wife'd taught" — Steeply's follow-up out of the Boston offices reports "possible indications of the victim's prior possible involvement with the widow of the auteur," the widow (Avril) having, per background checks, been "fucking just about everything with a pulse," "particularly a Canadian pulse." INFERRED (the archive's cross-scene identification, NOT stated in the text): Marlon Bain's letter (n269) recalls a "swarthily foreign-looking monilial-internist medical resident" whom Avril introduced at Longwood as a "dear and cherished friend" without explaining how they met — a foreign monilial (Candida/yeast) specialist and Avril intimate during Orin's youth, matching the attaché's specialty (Candida-driven maxillofacial yeast) and the reported prior involvement. The identification is possible, not certain — as printed. The Avril-link has a third attestation, the earliest in the story: in the 1 April YTMP "professional conversationalist" dialogue (Hal opposite the disguised Himself, scene 005), the conversationalist alleges Hal's "blithe inattention to your own dear grammatical mother's cavortings with not one not two but over thirty Near Eastern medical attachés" — claimed, inside a paranoid/parodic catalog of accusations, hyperbolic in its plural, identifying no individual; cited as written and hardening nothing.
