The marriage to Gertraude

What: Marathe married the skull-less woman (Gertraude / Gertraud Marathe). The wedding: both rolled down the aisle in special conveyances, hers fitted with pans and drains for the cerebro-spinal fluid; her wedding helmet was of nickel mined and molded by friends; Marathe held "the hook" of her hand. The cleric asked did he choose this woman; "There was a long time of silence… My whole very being came to a knifelike point in that instant." He calls it the happiest day of his life since losing his legs — while stating he had "been knowing since the wedding night her death was coming" (her restenosis of the heart irreversible).
