Through the smeared glass, two faces: at eye level the adoring Swiss hand-model, now meeting his eye steadily while acknowledging nothing; at waist level, conferring with her, "the shy and handicapped fan who O.'d realized had shared the Subject's Swiss accent" — the survey man of event 2. A stilted amplified voice comes periodically through the vent demanding to know Where Is The Master Buried. When the speaker's screen slides back and sewer roaches pour blackly in, Orin splays against the glass and shrieks "Do it to her!" — exactly the response Mlle. Luria P (who had lobbied to skip the subtlety and be given rubber gloves and three minutes with the Subject's testicles, and who was not really Swiss) had predicted; she inclines her head and rolls her eyes at the A.F.R. leader she has long regarded as something of a ham.
