The E.T.A. audience receives the whole thread as "the Rodney-Tine-Luria-P.-love-rumor-and-Tine-as-Benedict-Arnold thing" — "love-rumor," the text's own hedge, carried as printed. n.176 adds that the romance emphasis is Mario's: Himself's earlier adult ONANtiad "had concerned not Tine and a Québecois fatale" but a doomed Gentle romance.
