• What: Studying JOI's technically gorgeous but cold cartridges repeatedly, Joelle finds almost-subliminal flashes of human pain (e.g. The Medusa v. the Odalisque's three cuts to tormented faces, sped up "as if they compromised him somehow") and, in Pre-Nuptial Agreement of Heaven and Hell's 240-second Bernini shot, an oblique unironic thesis: mediated self-forgetting as the Grail, with alcohol's self-forgetting ranked below religion/art.
