What: From the very end of the top bleacher, Troeltsch calls the Hal-Stice challenge match into his empty fist, coming at it from different angles to voice both a play-by-play announcer and a color man ("Incandenza the controller. Incandenza the tactician."), lapsing into fake beer/resin commercial patter. Poutrincourt, asked who he is by the visiting "journalist" Steeply, delivers the coach's-eye verdict: best left alone, "a strange and unhappy"; deLint twice tells him to cut the volume, threatening to take a personal interest in seeing Troeltsch suffer.
