JOI meets Hal disguised as a "professional conversationalist"

• What: JOI, wearing a fake nose/mustache and his unmistakable Interdependence-Day argyle sweater-vest, poses as a hired "professional conversationalist" and bikes Hal up for an "appointment." The disguise is transparent to Hal, who narrates JOI's decline (Wild Turkey at 5 A.M., pitching over during dawn drills, delusions "about people's mouths moving but nothing coming out"). The scene enacts JOI's fixed hallucination that Hal never speaks; it closes with JOI pleading for "one conversation… that does not end in terror… you staring, me swallowing," and Hal falling into an unanswering "…". The originary father-son communication rupture that prefigures Hal's own YG muteness.
