• What: The book's descriptions of DuPlessis's rank never quite settle. The burglary narration calls him "the right-hand man to probably the most infamous anti-O.N.A.N. organizer north of the Great Concavity" — a lieutenant to some unnamed superior. The desert-serial parenthetical styles him "M. DuPlessis, former asst. coordinator of the pan-Canadian Resistance." The professional conversationalist calls him "the pan-Canadian Resistance's notorious M. DuPlessis," no qualifier, and the Antitoi chapter makes him "their late regional patron M. Guillaume DuPlessis of the Gaspé Peninsula." Whether he was the top anti-O.N.A.N. organizer, that organizer's right hand, or a regional coordinator is left as printed — the descriptions are recorded here side by side, unreconciled (see Dating notes). One biographical datum reaches us through Marathe's private reflection: he had once studied under radical Jesuits in Edmonton — a Québec figure with an Albertan intellectual past, fitting the pan-Canadian (not merely Québecois) scope of his portfolio.
