• What: As Staffer, Gately (with Johnette Foltz) routinely tells residents Lenz's compulsions are "teaching them valuable patience and tolerance." Though residents who go off alone are red-flagged as relapse-risks, Lenz's spot-urines came back clean, so "Gately's basically decided to just let Lenz be," reasoning some newcomers' Higher Power is Nature/the night air. (Dramatic irony: Lenz is secretly killing animals on these walks with Gately's own Hefty bags and meatloaf.) He also catches Lenz acting as a predatory "sponsor" to a new female resident (Yolanda) and warns her off. Seeds the shooting (event 50).
