The 92-day Revere Holding bit: kicking the Bird (the "Present"-doctrine origin) and the A.D.A.-toothbrush revenge

• What: A remorseless North Shore (Revere/Essex-County) A.D.A.'s circumstantial suspicion cost Gately a 92-day bit in Revere Holding (charges dismissed on a speedy-trial brief). During it he kicked cold turkey ("the Bird") for weeks on the cell floor, unable to endure the projected future and so building "a wall around each second," discovering the endless Now between heartbeats — the lived origin of the AA "living in The Present" doctrine he carries into the hospital serial (event 52). In revenge (a "Don't-Get-Mad-Get-Even" gesture) he and a trusted associate — per n.13 his never-surrendered childhood friend Trent "Quo Vadis" Kite — burgled the A.D.A.'s Wonderland Valley home during a charity sailing event, took only a coin collection and two antique shotguns, and a month later mailed the A.D.A. a dental-hygiene brochure with two Polaroids of the pair in clown masks, pants down, each with one of the couple's toothbrushes protruding from his bottom. Gately never worked the North Shore again — the A.D.A. grudge that later shadows his hospital serial (event 54; the amend, event 57).
