• What: Hanging off the Clipperton account, n.160 records that the disturbing footage of Clipperton's suicide — "with perhaps half a dozen other emotionally or professionally sensitive cartridge-Masters" — was designated Unviewable by testatory codicil, and that while Hal and Orin believe the Masters sit in some vault-apparatus, the truth is otherwise: "As far as can be determined, only those lawyers, Avril, Disney Leith, and perhaps Mario know that the cartridges were, in fact, along with his case of special lenses, interred right there with J. O. Incandenza’s dead body". Leith is thus one of a named handful — the attorneys, Avril, Leith, "perhaps Mario" — holding one of the novel's most consequential secrets: where the sensitive master cartridges are actually buried. Which Masters beyond the Clipperton footage went into the casket is not enumerated, and this page imports nothing from elsewhere about what else the grave may hold; the note's own hedges ("perhaps," "As far as can be determined") stand as printed.
