At Avril's urging that fall he "cashed in his Canadian return ticket and stayed on as Assistant Headmaster" to assist JOI's oversight of E.T.A., assuming "a progressively more and more total capacity" as JOI's travels, film-work, and 13 rehab stays over three years pulled him away. This is the load-bearing move of Tavis's life: he moves in as JOI moves out.
