• What: Green, Mildred, and their "tiny incontinent" daughter Harriet Bonk-Green lived off the Allston Spur in a housetrailer with another couple and with Tommy Doocey, the harelipped pot-and-sundries dealer who kept large unclean snakes in uncovered aquaria (Doocey's lip covered his nose, so he could not smell them). Green worked a steady job at Leisure Time Ice; Mildred got high afternoons and watched serial-cartridges; "for a while life was more or less one big party." In Green's own later account (to Pat Montesian), the household kept up "in-jokes" to stand the squalor — marking a calendar for how long Doocey went without washing his hair — and they were "wasted I'd say 90% of the time," Green dropping live mice into the snake tanks holding his breath.
