• What: After the funeral, Mr. Green caved in — pacing the Waltham living room nightly in his Frankensteinian boot, cursing God and himself — then packed a random case of Acme's outgoing Blammo Cigars with lethal tetryl explosives; "a V.F.W., three Rotarians, and 24 Shriners had been grotesquely decapitated across Southeastern Ohio" before the A.T.F. traced it to him. Extradition, a complex Sanity Hearing, Midwest trial, and Lethal Injection followed, with little Bruce in tow at the prison deathwatch amid jeering motorized Shriners, held to the underwired bosom of his veiled aunt. Green did not speak aloud again until his last year of grade school, by then living in Winchester MA with his late mother's sister, a decent, Dustbowly Seventh-Day Adventist who never pressed him to speak.
