• What: deLint runs the boys through pre-stretch sprints — the half-hearted warm-up "warrior-noises" are his dictate — ranging behind the fence with clipboard and whistle, arms crossed, hands the narration sizes as a strangler's, and when Schtitt caps the morning with a lofty peroration on the sheltering second world inside the lines, deLint punctures it with a flat order about the fucking cold. The scene also fixes Hal's "almost obsessive dislike": he tries to catch deLint at an angle to settle whether the man has any depth at all — the 2-D-martinet suspicion that event 10 will revise.
