• What: Per Thrust's bedside account: "Lenz and Green and Alfonso Parias-Carbo had dragged/carried the passed-out Gately inside" and laid him on the black vinyl couch in Pat's office. The effort cost Alfonso: "Parias-Carbo seemed like he'd suffered a mild intestinal hernia from dragging/carrying Gately, but he was being a man about it and had refused codeine downstairs at the E.R. and was expressing gratitude for the growth experience, and the thoraxic lump was receding nicely" (the same injury is called an intestinal hernia and a thoraxic lump in one sentence — carried as printed). And when the masked new girl stepped in to help move Gately where the herniated Alfonso couldn't, her partly-open robe reportedly "brought Alfonso P.-C. around from his herniated fetal posture on the floor." His most consequential act: self-costing physical help, borne in perfect Program idiom.
