Wraithster

A name from the book's manuscript history rather than its published text. In the 1993 first draft, Ortho Stice's nickname was "the Wraith" — not "The Darkness" — and Hal at one point calls him "Wraithster"; the revision moved that ghost-identification into subtext, leaving the published novel only hints that James Incandenza's wraith haunts Stice (p. 943). The draft naming is on record from Steven Moore's first-hand account of the manuscript, and discussions of the ending (this archive's included) still say "the Wraithster" for Stice-as-possessed.
