Commitment

In Boston AA, a Group's scheduled speaking trip to another Group's meeting: "Commitments are where some members of one Group commit to hit the road and travel to another Group’s meeting to speak publicly from the podium" and "Groups always trade Commitments: you come speak to us and we’ll come speak to you" (p. 343). The novel's long AA set-piece is the White Flag Group (see that entry) hosting a Commitment from Concord's Advanced Basics Group (pp. 343-367), and Gately's Higher-Power confession comes "On a White Flag Group Commitment to the Tough Shit But You Still Can’t Drink Group down in Braintree" (p. 442).
