anhedonic

The adjective of anhedonia (see that entry): flattened, pleasure-dead. The novel hangs it on James Incandenza in the year a sudden flood of patent receipts left him "feeling post-carrot anhedonic and existentially unmoored" (p. 706) — the same flatness his son Hal later describes in himself (pp. 694-695).
