Context
Schtitt's program at its deepest, and the theme's metaphysical spine restated (cf. 026, 089). Talent and work can make you "the best," but that's the trap, not the prize: "you are doomed if you do not have also within you some ability to transcend the goal." Attain the goal without a way past it and you either realize the win doesn't redeem you (the Clipperton doom) or party yourself out of being a player (the Endless Party). The academy's real, delicate task with an étoile isn't producing the win — it's building in advance the thing that lets a body survive getting what it trained for.
