Stice stuck to the window: C.T. at the glass, brainstorming toward Total Worry

quote

I could picture poor C.T. at the living room window in leather slippers and Scotch-plaid robe, seeming to pace even when standing still, raising and lowering the antenna of the phone in his hand, with several calls out already to Logan, M.I.A.-Dorval, WeatherNet-9000’s recorded update, heavy-browed figures in Québec’s O.N.A.N.T.A. office, C.T.’s forehead a washboard and lips moving soundless as he brainstormed his way toward a state of Total Worry.

Context

Snowed in and awake before dawn, Hal pictures the Headmaster running the storm as pure logistics: C.T. "at the living room window in leather slippers and Scotch-plaid robe, seeming to pace even when standing still," phone-antenna going up and down, "several calls out already" to Logan, Dorval, WeatherNet-9000, and "heavy-browed figures in Québec's O.N.A.N.T.A. office." The administrative body that houses the athletic ones has its own signature posture — the washboard forehead, the soundless lips — brainstorming "toward a state of Total Worry" over whether tomorrow's exhibition meet can be played at all. The regimen's weather-contingency runs on a body too: C.T.'s, worrying the schedule into shape at the glass.
