Under Troeltsch's imaginary broadcast sits a real fact about how equipment shapes the body's game. The "polycarbonate resins changed the whole power-matrix of the junior game," and it split a generation: Stice "grown up with the extra-large head" so "a large head is all The Darkness knows," while Hal is "a man who's adapted his game to a large head," modifying grip and strokes to a frame that arrived mid-career. The tool remakes the technique; the body is built partly by what it's holding.
