dawn drills: the drill that doubles as a punishment
volleys for depth, then for angle, then lobs and overheads, which latter drill can be converted into a disciplinary Puker if a prorector’s feeding you the lobs: the overhead drill’s called ‘Tap & Whack’
Context
The conditioning and the discipline are the same machine in two gears. The overhead drill, "Tap & Whack" — sprint up to tap the net, backpedal, jump, kick, smash, repeat — "can be converted into a disciplinary Puker if a prorector’s feeding you the lobs." Whether it's training or punishment depends entirely on who's feeding and how relentlessly; the identical bodily motion is both the way you get better and the way you get made to suffer. At E.T.A. the drill is the rod.
