Stice is introduced as a body first, and one already assimilated to the weight room's machinery: "16-A’s very top man," a "serve-and-volley prodigy," his "sauna-fresh torso" catching light "the same color as the moonlight off the idle weights’ metal." The description folds him straight into the equipment — the top boy's flesh and the iron he's built on lit the same metallic shade. Stice arrives in the anthology as the wraith's chosen instrument, and the first thing we're shown is the instrument gleaming.
