The E.T.A. rap on Orin was that he lobbed well but too often. He did have a phenomenal lob: he could hug the curve of the dome of the Lung and three times out of four nail a large-sized coin placed on the opposite baseline
Context
The diagnosis-in-embryo, stated as scouting report before Schtitt turns it into character: Orin "lobbed well but too often," a phenomenal lob honed at Eschaton that could "hug the curve of the dome of the Lung" and drop on a coin. The lob is a compensation — a single overdeveloped shot standing in for the passing shots and return of serve he never built. E.T.A.'s vocabulary already frames it as a weakness disguised as a strength: the body's one brilliant trick becomes the alibi for everything it refused to develop.
