Love of a woman, the sexual, it bends back in on the self, makes you narrow, maybe crazy. Choose with care. Love of your nation, your country and people, it enlarges the heart. Something bigger than the self.
Context
The theme's core doctrine spoken straight by its purest ideologue: love of a person "bends back in on the self" and makes you "a citizen of nothing," while love of nation "enlarges the heart," is "something bigger than the self," and "outlives you." This is nationalism as a metaphysics of belonging — the choice of a nation over a person is the choice of a self that survives — and the A.F.R.'s whole willingness to die is downstream of it.
