Context
The legal architecture the whole samizdat-plot exploits: InterLace's copyrights enforced by engineering all cartridges "Read-Only," so that copying "a Master" requires "special OS-codes and special hardware" — a barrier "not a hard hurdle to clear if you've got financial resources and political incentive (i.e., to dupe off a Master)." The media-monopoly-as-law is precisely the lock the A.F.R. must pick: mass-disseminating the Entertainment means beating Lace-Forché's Read-Only regime, "political incentive" the exact phrase for the insurgency's motive. (The InterLace industry-litigation is film-optics'; landed here is the Master-duplication legal frame the anti-O.N.A.N. weapon needs.)
