The Concavity's deformed births enter the fable as Gertraude's condition: she was "among the first Swiss children of southwestern Switzerland to become born without a skull, from the toxicities in association of our enemy's invasion on paper" — the soft-skulled newborns of 086, the "acromegalic infants lost in experialist shuffle" of 091, retold as the birth-defects of the despoiled "Swiss" region. And the geography gives itself away: the hilltop is "Switzerland's Mont Papineau," the Papineau region that is the A.F.R.'s actual home (the endnote cluster's "Papineau region"). The toxic cost of the Reconfiguration is smuggled in as a Swiss child born without a skull.
