Avril's Québec losses, stated at their most elegiac: her dead Québec parents (mother "in Québec of an infarction," father "under circumstances none of us knew"), and "the original L'Islet potato farm now part of the Great Concavity and forever lost." The potato-baron father's land (n234) is not merely poisoned but absorbed — "part of the Great Concavity and forever lost," ceded ground the family can never reclaim. The Reconfiguration has eaten Avril's inheritance whole; her origin is a farm that is now inside the toxified gift-territory, unrecoverable.
