The narrator of Orin's B.U. football conversion, glancing back at how C.T. came to run E.T.A.: JOI's suicide, dated to the day, delivered entirely inside the street idiom — the book's most consequential death rendered as map-elimination in a subordinate clause about admissions paperwork. The idiom's first application to the Incandenza patriarch himself, the man who (per p. 64, in texture) held an actual patent in cartography software.
