Hal's hero essay: the B/B+
A SUBMISSION RECEIVING JUST A B/B+, DESPITE OVERALL POSITIVE FEEDBACK, MOSTLY BECAUSE ITS CONCLUDING ¶ WAS NEITHER SET UP BY THE ESSAY’S BODY NOR SUPPORTED, OGILVIE POINTED OUT, BY ANYTHING MORE THAN SUBJECTIVE INTUITION AND RHETORICAL FLOURISH.
Context
The institution's verdict on earnest intuition, delivered in the frame itself. Hal's one true prediction is the thing that gets marked down — not for being wrong but for resting on "subjective intuition and rhetorical flourish" instead of the supportable, ironic-academic argument the culture rewards. It is a small perfect image of how sincerity gets penalized: the same culture that manufactured the ironic-reactive hero also grades meaning-something-you-can't-yet-footnote as unrigorous, docking the boy precisely where he was right.
