Joelle's Q-interview: a dry humor

Undecidability named as the fatal condition. "Dry" is precisely the humor that gives no tonal tell, the deadpan whose sincerity can't be read off the surface — and Joelle's certainty ("always ironic," "a joke," "he'd never carry it that far") is the confidence of the one person inside the intimacy that dryness requires. But the defining property of dry humor is that no one outside can tell. Where 150's dial ("ironically about half the time") was ambiguity as aesthetic pleasure, here the identical undecidability is a murder weapon: a film that might be a sincere masterpiece of lethal perfection or an ironic joke about lethal perfection, with no surviving way to distinguish the two.
