Context
The plan's one-liner lands here: Avril, unprompted, dates JOI's last thorough enjoyment of anything to the weeks he spent building Mario's head-rig — the police-lock brace, yoke, and Bolex assembly the whole scene is being shot on. The lethal auteur's late craftsmanship has a happy twin, and it's this camera (that the rig-building overlapped the Entertainment's production period is a cross-scene inference, not this raw's claim): an instrument sized and weighted for his damaged son, still in nightly use after his death. The scene we are reading is, materially, Himself's last happy object at work.
