Context
The whole note, glossing 159's "Technical interviewers under Chief of Unspecified Services R. (‘the G.’) Tine" — 159's own noir entry carries the scene-side frame (the portable high-watt lamp aimed at Notkin's unveiled face; the "tough noir-informed grilling"; the Sidney Peterson–shaped directorial chair). The gloss supplies the etiology: state interrogation doctrine is film-derived — Tine's boyhood b/w noir, watched "late at night on local broadcast television, and misses" — so the lamp-in-the-face staging is genre reenactment, nostalgia operationalized as tradecraft. The interview that extracts the book's fullest account of the Entertainment is itself conducted from inside a remembered movie. Plan pre-marks it texture.
