Context
The reason Orin gave himself for leaving Joelle, in one clause: a "pathetic jealous fantasy about Joelle and his own poor father." It's the 068 triangle seen from Joelle's side — the son unable to face his own reasons, so he manufactures a rivalry with Himself over the girlfriend the father only ever wanted to film. The father-son jealousy is the son's invention, a cover story, which is its own kind of inheritance: Orin can't leave a woman without routing the wound through his father.
