No anxiety of influence, no grief: the son simply picks up the dead father's tool and uses it. The insight is the plainness of the verb, "opts for." Where Hal reaches for the father through mourning and forensics, Mario just directs in the father's idiom, the transmission so total it doesn't even register to him as borrowing.
