Context
The name runs straight down the male line: Himself's middle name Orin came from his own grandfather, and Himself in turn hung it on his firstborn son. Hal notes it flat, lying on the V.R.5 floor cataloguing his family — but it's the theme's transmission motif at its most literal, a name passed hand to hand across four generations of Incandenza men, the eldest son carrying a dead patriarch's name forward without ever being asked.
