Orin survey, the wheelchair man (pp. 596–597)
Because the Subject’s pleasure in him has become his food, he is conscientious in the consideration and gentleness he shows after coitus
Context
Orin's seductions run on the same circuitry as the theme's viewing: he needs to be watched, fed by the adoring gaze of a Subject whose eyes he can "see holding him whole." Where the Entertainment's victims dissolve into pure reception, Orin has inverted the loop and made himself the spectacle that consumes its audience's attention as sustenance — a small domestic model of the athlete absorbed into his own spectation. The tenderness is real and instrumental at once, which is exactly the difficulty the theme keeps circling: the pleasure and the predation are the same gesture.
