Suspected but unknown by Marathe, Fortier plans to have Marathe view the Entertainment by force before plans for the dissemination of copies from a Master are firm in execution.
Context
Even the operatives are not exempt; the cartridge is also an instrument of internal discipline. Fortier intends to force Marathe to watch the Entertainment — a loyalty test administered as a death sentence, choosing-your-master with the choice removed entirely, the very weapon the cell is disseminating turned inward on a suspected traitor. It closes the theme's loop on the AFR themselves: they handle the object as fissile material and toast their volunteer viewers as heroes, but the same object stands ready as a punishment, a way to erase a man by making him watch. No one who touches the Entertainment stays outside its category of victim.
