The White Flag AA meeting: endnote 140
Don G.’s North Shore’s vulgate signifier for trite/banal is: limp.
Context
The thirteen-word endnote hanging off "an epiphanic AA-related nocturnal dream he'll be the first to admit was banally trite" (p. 357): the narrator's "banally trite" is a translation, and this is the original — in Gately's own idiom the great glass-basement dream is just limp. One word of dream-criticism, doing the scene's whole register-braiding (essayist narrator over Gately's vulgate) in miniature.
