Hal wakes to the blizzard, anhedonic — "I’d awakened too early yesterday, too…"
I’d awakened too early yesterday, too. I’d kept seeing Kevin Bain crawling my way in my sleep.
Context
Residue of the Inner-Infant meeting Hal crashed (160): the regressed grown man crawling toward him has moved into his sleep, and — per the "too" — serially, night after night. The crawling-infant image pairs directly with the crib-blur ending of Gately's Death dream in the adjacent scene 164: both convalescents dream themselves back toward infancy the same November night.
